If anyone ever needs a definition of an angel here on Earth, look no further than the memory and the life of Vance. He always knew your name, your story and your passions. He was more than just the guy who bagged your groceries. He was the smile at the end of a long day, he was chivalry in the face apathy and above all he was a decent man living in an indecent time. The streets of heaven are paved with your kindness tonight, Vance and your memory will surely serve as the better angel of our nature as we live out the rest of our lives. RIP Vance

I met vance many times over a period of many years. he always greeted me with a smile and he was always kind. he never had anything bad to say about anyone, and each time he said bye he would tell me to say hi to his best friend for him, even though he saw him all the time. we was the most genuine and kind hearted soul that I ever had the pleasure to know. because of him I will always try to find the good in everyone, like he always did. he is with God now. goodbye vance. rest in peace. <3

Vance had the kindest spirit that I have known . I had the pleasure of attending a concert with him at the clear water venue , it was a Motown band called " The moods " which played 60s,70s and 80s music ,even though Vance was barely 24 at the time he knew every word to every song played ....VERY impressive ! He would also make us laugh with his awesome sense of humor ! He would recite extensive dialog from movies he had seen . He was very smart , kind and funny ! We will miss Vance , a TRUE angel from God , - Holly McGinley

Vance was an awesome kid with a big heart. I have never met anybody so enthusiastic and happy about the simple things. The guy always made me laugh, especially with his chappelle jokes. You'll be truly missed my friend---Manny

Ill truly miss Vance and his wonderful personality. Our shared passion of the White Sox and movies always made my trips to Jewel fun. Vance truly was an angel. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

WOW!!! Such wonderful things so eloquently stated about a man I did not even know, but through everyones recounts of him, is truly an Angel of God's . Always know that Vance is now at peace, and you will see him again. Be assured Vance will always have his arms around all of those that loved him so dearly. Thank you Vance, for inspiring SO MANY people in your short lifetime here on Earth! I am sure you will be missed!

Vance, I hope you know how much I truly care about you. You touched my heart, mind, and life in general. Seeing the sheer amount of people unite to search for you, contact media outlets, and attend your vigils is living proof of the kind of guy you were. I will miss you. I will always be thinking of you as I know you always thought about me. I pray that your young daughter and family find the strength they will need the next few days...and rest of their time here...dealing with the tragic loss of such an amazing man. Rest in paradise Vance. <3

Vance was such a 'gentle giant',always smiling, always kind. Whenever I saw him at Jewel,he'd ask about my kids and we'd always have the same parting comments: I'd say," Be good," and Vance would say "I'm ALWAYS good",with a huge smile. I'm goiing to miss him terribly. My heart and my prayers go out to his family. Rest in peace,Vance-you were taken too soon. Christina Van Lysebettens

Over the summer, while my daughter and I would be out at 4:30 in the morning delivering newspapers,we first met Vance. He was working at Buckys gas station at Euclid & Hicks Roads. We would go in to get coffee and gas, he would always remember our names and even what we bought the time before. He had a unique way of talking which made us laugh and feel better about our day. Not everyone you meet has that kind of a gift. We are so sorry we never got the chance to say thanks to him for being our friend... Katie and Mark B.

Vance was a great guy. i worked at the pizza place down the way from Jewel when i was 18 and into my early twenties while in school. He always remembered my name and my brothers name, and always asked how things were going. He had a good heart and you could tell that just by talking to him for a few minutes. In this day and age people spend all day worrying about themselves and it always seemed like he had everyone else in mind. That's really rare. Vance was a really cool guy and hes gonna be remembered for the all people he touched during his life.

From a Mom who's son was friends with Vance....I am hurting for my son's loss and more so for Vance's Mother, Vance's siblings, relatives and friends. He had the biggest heart, knew who we were even before we knew of him. We were given the pleasure of his smile, his thoughtful ways.and his huge heart whenever we crossed paths. We will cross paths again. Until then many prayers of healing and comfort to those who treasured and loved him. In our thoughts daily, Pam (Moreno) Ramos

This message is for Vance's family. Your son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend was a Great person. He was unique, so unique he modeled what people should be like. I remember walking into Bucky's not too long ago and seeing Vance working there. I said I was wondering why I didn't see you at Jewel. The person who was working with him said you are very popular! So many people know you!. He was so kind and sociable. I can honestly say I never seen him having a bad moment. I was asking one of my co-workers who I work with if they knew Vance because they work in Chicago but live in Hoffman Estates and just as expected yes with just as nice things to say. Let us all feel blessed to have known such a Great person. Vance embodied a kind spirit that will always live on in everyone's memory who was lucky enough to know him. Vance, Family, and Friends, you are in my prayers. God Bless, Tracy
