Renowned Researcher Speaks on Mental Illness and the Criminal Justice System

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Barrington Area invites you to come and listen to Dr. Arthur Lurigio, a nationally renowned expert on violence, the criminal justice system and mental illness.  Art was instrumental in designing the cook County Mental Health Court and was the principal investigator on a study of the Cook County Juvenile Court Clinic. Dr. Lurigio will bring to the audience a wealth of information and recommendations as to how to improve the treatment and care of people with serious mental illness in the criminal justice system.  He will also share his knowledge about the "war on drugs" which has expanded the criminal justice net, sweeping into jails and prisons large numbers of mentally ill with co-morbid substance use disorders.  Dr. Lurigio has presented at local, state and national conferences.  The information he has to share has universal appeal to all who are concerned about the health and well-being of our most vulnerable citizens. This is a presentation you will not want to miss. Registration is suggested but not required.  Call Maryrose at 847-496-1415 to register or for information about this presentation or NAMI Barrington Area resources.
