FOOD SUSTAINABILITY – WHY IT MATTERS AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT

Please join us on Saturday, October 24th at 4 pm at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E Main St.  for a discussion lead by Bill Bishop of Willard Bishop Consulting on environmentally sustainable food production.


Most of the food we buy in grocery stores gets there only after being grown with pesticides, herbicides or genetically modified seed and/or antibiotics, is transported long distances using fossil fuels, contaminates air and water, and  compromises humane treatment of animals.


Interest in organic and locally-produced food has been gaining among people concerned with the environment, health, and social justice issues, but the high cost of production and at the supermarket has made food producers, retailers, and consumers alike reluctant or unable to support sustainable methods.

Bill Bishop has a BS and MS in Agronomy and Horticulture from the University of Maine and a PhD from Cornell in Agricultural Economics and Food Marketing.   He has been involved in retail research and consulting for over 30 years and is one of the industry's preeminent advisors.  Bill was featured by American Demographics magazine as one of the ten thought and research leaders "driving the future of consumer intelligence."

Bill has taught Marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
