Countryside Electronics Recycling Drive

Electronics are a very popular holiday gift these days and you may soon be left with outdated or perhaps broken “old” technology… To aid in the safe disposal of these items, Countryside Association for People with Disabilities will host a post-holiday season Electronics Recycling Drive on Friday, January 6. Items can be dropped off any time between 8:30 AM and 1 PM at Countryside Center, 21154 W. Shirley Road, Palatine (near Deer Park Town Center, the closest intersection is Rand Road and Plum Grove Road).

The following items will be accepted: computers, hard drives, laptops and laptop batteries, disk drives, processors, modems, keyboards, cords and wires, chargers, video game systems, stereo equipment and cassette players, small appliances, telephones, cell phones*, headphones, microphones, speakers, answering machines, printers, fax machines, and copy machines. Regretfully, we cannot accept microwaves, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and air conditioning units. We can, however, accept computer monitors and televisions when they are accompanied by a $10 donation that can help us cover the cost of recycling the item. Additionally, Countryside will offer an at-home pick-up if you are disposing of 8 items or more. Contact Maggie Goy at (847) 540-3741 if you have questions or would like to schedule a pick-up.

The idea for this drive came from individuals at Countryside Association. A recycling committee comprised of program participants was formed in May 2011 for the purpose of learning about the recycling process, living a “green” lifestyle, and working as a team to fight pollution. The program succeeds in giving participants the opportunity to raise money for the programs and services they love. Previous recycling drives in May, September, and October have raised close to $1,000 to support program participants, who will make a collective decision as to how the funds are spent. Other recycling drives include a clothing drive every Friday in January, a tennis shoe drive in March, and ongoing aluminum collections. Call (847) 540-3741 for more details on these initiatives.
