Faith in Place, Faith in Motion- Creating Sustainability in Illinois

Working Together to Promote Sustainability in Illinois A conversation with Rev. Clare Butterfield at Barrington Green Drinks on February 15

Barrington, Illinois…. Many organizations talk about being good stewards of our planet.  Faith in Place puts their time and money into action.  On February 15 at 6 p.m. at McGonigal’s Pub, Barrington Green Drinks welcomes Claire Butterfield, Executive Director of Faith in Place to talk about their interfaith environmental ministry in Chicago and how they translate environmental ideas into practice and words into deeds.

Over the past 12 years, Faith in Place has assisted hundreds of faith communities in the Chicagoland area to be good stewards of the earth.  They have helped churches reduce energy consumption, educated and encouraged congregations to consider renewable energy sources, have organized Winter markets to support local sustainable community agriculture as well as advocating for environmental laws that will benefit the people of Illinois.  Most recently, Faith in Place has proposed legislation in Springfield known as the Fracturing Chemical Fluid Disclosure Act.  This legislation is currently working its way through our state legislature.  ‘Fracking’ is the process by which natural gas is extracted from the earth.  It is important to understand the ‘fracking’ method used and why it is of public importance that there is disclosure on the chemicals being injected into to ground during the natural gas extraction process.

Green Drinks is a monthly informal networking events network with like-minded people who are working to improve the planet and who enjoy a little fun with their eco-consciousness. The “fun side of environmental awareness” demonstrates that being good to the Earth does not have to be difficult or expensive. The goal is to bring together all who share a passion for the environment in a casual, fun, unstructured way to learn, share ideas and make a difference—locally. Meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of each month. Green Drinks is FREE--no meeting costs and no membership dues.
