Explore two private gardens in Barrington Hills and Elburn, open to the public for self-guided tours to benefit the Garden Conservancy. No reservations required; rain or shine. Admission is $5 per garden; children 12 & under free. Highlights include an explosion of summer blooms – roses, lilies, astilbes, phlox and more; a two-acre woodland with extensive shade perennials; three landscaped ponds with waterfalls and a stream that leads to a swimming pool; and a Certified Wildlife Habitat and Monarch Butterfly Waystation. Begin at the Olsen Garden or see website for additional locations. Additional gardens open on Sunday in Chicago's North Shore region.
