Barrington's Kirsten Jacobsen Sets State Swimming Record

Going into Saturday's state swimming meet at New Trier, Barrington's Kirsten Jacobsen thought she just might have a chance of breaking the state record in the 500 freestyle, according to the Daily Herald.

She instead walked away with a state championship and record in the 200 free and also won the 500 free, but fell short of the state record by three-tenths of a second, according to the article.

Jacobsen, a sophomore at Barrington High School, secured the state record in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.98, according to the Illinois High School Association website. Mundelein's Erin Falconer wasn't far behind and finished in second with a time of  1:47.21.

The previous state record of 1:47.17 in the 200 free was set by Naperville Central's Kelly McNichols in 2005, according to the IHSA.

Jacobsen finished the 500 free in 4:46.93 just shy of the state record of 4:46.66 set by Adrienne Bicek, of North High School in Downers Grove, in 2008, according to the IHSA.
