Give Back: Barrington Giving Day Kicks Fund-Raising Efforts Into Full Gear

Find out how you can donate and volunteer for Barrington Giving Day, which helps provide families who are on the free and reduced lunch program in Barrington School District 220 with necessities.

Volunteers efforts have kicked into full gear for organizers of Barrington's Giving Day.

Each December, families who are on the free and reduced lunch program in Barrington School District 220 are invited to a Giving Day where they receive boxes of food, warm coats, blankets, books and gifts, according to the Barrington Giving Day website.

Businesses, schools, churches and civic organizations in Barrington provide support through donations to make the Giving Day possible. In 2012, the Barrington Giving Day served 1,017 families, including 3,000 children and senior citizens.

As the need is greater each year, schools have been busy collecting used clothing throughout the year; businesses have donated a variety of items, including toys, books and coats; and organizations and businesses have been holding fund-raising events to collect donations, according to the Giving Day Facebook page.

There are several ways to donate to or volunteer for this organization during the holidays season:
