Residents Donate More than 900 Artificial Trees to Benefit Goodwill

The annual Christmas tree trade-in program hosted by Treetime Christmas Creations in Lake Barrington netted twice as many donations as last season.

More than 900 gently used artificial trees, donated by area residents to Treetime's annual Christmas tree trade-in program, will be hitting Goodwill stores across Chicagoland by Black Friday.

This is the third year Treetime has held its Christmas tree trade-in program, but the first year the business has partnered with Goodwill, whose mission is to provide training, employment and supportive services for people who are dislocated workers, or have disadvantages or disabilities.

Representatives from Treetime Christmas Creations in Lake Barrington presented the donated trees to Goodwill on Nov. 22.

"Goodwill is excited about our relationship with Treetime Christmas Creations and this very successful donation promotion. We never expected over 900 trees to be donated. That is amazing," said Pat Boelter, Chief Marketing Officer, Goodwill, in a press release. "Without the generous support of the local community, our shoppers would not have the opportunity to make their holidays bright."

The trade-in program also helps the environment by keeping the artificial tress out of the landfills. Those who donated trees received 15 percent off a new tree purchase at Treetime.

"We are very passionate about giving back to the community, and the annual Christmas tree trade-in has been an amazing way for us to see the generosity of area residents who also want to spread holiday joy," said Joe Kane, of Treetime. "Teaming up with the Greater Chicagoland Goodwill Store & Donation Centers this year has been a fulfilling partnership and really helped to broaden the excitement about the trade-in program."

Treetime has a 50,000 square-foot showroom in Lake Barrington and a store in Palatine.
