Harry Potter may have vanished into the past, but author J.K. Rowling is still around, with her for-adults book The Casual Vacancy due out Sept. 27.
In Barrington, you can find it at any book retailer including nearby Barnes and Noble in Deer Park, 20600 North Rand Road.
If you’re looking to check the book out from the Barrington Area Library, act fast! The library has ordered 16 copies of the novel, and 17 holds have already been placed on it. This means all copies of the book will be on hold on release day.
“The book will become available here at the library on September 27. Patrons who have placed holds will be notified immediately when their copy of the book is available. As with all of our popular reading materials, if the wait becomes too long for copies of The Casual Vacancy we will order even more copies to place on shelf,” Barrington Area Library’s Public Information Office Karen McBride said.
The new book by the creator of Harry Potter is aiming this book at a grown-up audience.
More than 2 million hardcover copies of her first novel are set to be released simultaneously in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
According to USA Today, the story is set in the little English town of Pagford, and revolves around an election held after a member of the parish council unexpectedly dies. Despite the Miss Marple terrain, press materials describe The Casual Vacancy as "blackly comic … Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war."
