Pledge to Drive Sober this New Year's Eve

Social media campaign hopes to encourage New Year's Eve revelers to have a designated driver.

An average of one drunk-driving fatality occurred every 51 minutes in 2012, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

NHTSA and the Ad Council are joining together for Thunderclap, an initiative on social media to encourage people have designated drivers during New Year celebrations.

The campaign involves agreeing to allow NHTSA post a message on your Facebook or Twitter account to join Thunderclap on New Year's Eve at the same time, according to a release.
