Arctic Opening for ChristKindlFest

Freezing temperatures, but warm hearts at first annual ChristKindlFest in downtown Barrington.

Vendors at the first annual ChristKindlfest in downtown Barrington came prepared for a freezing cold weekend in the open-air, European-inspired holiday village by placing space heaters in their chalets on Friday and hoping for a lot of sunshine on Saturday.

Saturday's forecast is sunny with a high of 17 degrees, but snow is expected Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

If you can brave the cold, the vendors will be happy to see you.

ChristKindlFest features Swiss chalets, German food and drink and live entertainment. Hours are 3 p.m. to midnight Friday; 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
