Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque’s 5th Anniversary Celebration kicks off Community Church of Barrington’s 165th Anniversary

The Community Church of Barrington (CCB) hosted a 5th Anniversary Celebration for Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 in Lake Barrington, IL. The event brought together family, congregants, friends, coworkers, community and spiritual leaders.

Zina Jacque’s Installation video played in the background while people enjoyed the passed appetizers in the beautiful Onion Room at The Onion Pub. Sandy Schroeder, Moderator of CCB, gave a welcome speech that brought laughter and smiles to many. The youth offered as their gift, a favorite song of Zina’s, “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban, under the musical direction of Dr. Sami El-Yasir, Youth Pastor at CCB. Many were brought to tears as the lyrics washed over the room, “You raise me up... To more than I can be.”

The Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Edmond of Second Baptist Church in Elgin, IL gave a rousing Anniversary Message, reminding Zina that her work is not yet done and thanking the people of CCB for choosing such an amazing woman as their leader. Karen Darch, Village President of Barrington, presented Zina Jacque with a Proclamation recognizing Zina’s outstanding contributions and extending gratitude on behalf of the citizens of Barrington for her offerings and the gift of her time to the betterment of the community. Rev. Jeanne Hanson led those gathered in a prayer as dinner was served. During dinner, tributes were made from Rev. Mary Tudela of Samaritan Counseling Center, as well as a heartfelt poem, written and read by Ms. Raina Gillis, niece of Zina Jacque.

Bob the DJ had everyone recall back to 1965 – shag carpeting and all! He set the stage where many years ago three young girls sang to their favorite performers. “The New Supreme's!” comprised of Rita Gillis and Jackie Pope, sister and cousin of Zina, brought out their hair brushes and invited Zina to the dance floor to sing “Stop In The Name of Love” just like they did in their bedroom many years ago. They brought the house down!

The raffle baskets and silent auction items were a huge hit. Baskets ranged from a Wisconsin Goodies basket featuring hand selected Wisconsin beers and other delicacies, to a fitness basket, movie and dinner basket, and spa basket. The silent auction items also proved to be a bit hit with Stu Overby’s catered dinner for 10 being the most bid on item! Also offered were a car detailing, beautiful framed artwork, and two different offerings for experiences at lake houses. Proceeds of the evening will benefit the youth of CCB, who are preparing for their mission trips to Michigan and West Virginia.

As the evening came to an end, another video created by Sharon and Mike Hornig, was shown highlighting photos of Zina from her childhood all the way through her time at CCB. Cindy Alton unveiled an original piece of artwork she created with the names of attendees in the letters that spelled Zina’s name. Dr. Samira El – Yasir presented Zina with over one hundred hand written cards and letters from those who wished to attend but were unable to, and those who wished to share what having Zina in their lives means to them.

We are grateful to our sponsors for the evening – Park Ave Wine Bar, TT Patton, Bread Basket, and Lauren Davis. Your support to the Community Church of Barrington means so much to us.
