Homeownership and The Upcoming Election..YOU can make a difference!

Judy Gibbons, Realtor® at Hunter's Fairway Sotheby's International Realty discusses how can you make a difference in this election.

How do you feel about the upcoming elections? I have to say for me, the right to vote is an amazing opportuntiy and this year I will be very focused on candidates that support homeownership.  I was recently quoted on The Realtor Channel, and  below is the gist of my statement.

"Restoring the health of the housing market and supporting homeownership in America will contribute to the economic recovery we so greatly need right now," said Judy Gibbons Chairman of the Board for the North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS®. "Housing is a top-of-mind issue for voters , and Realtors® would like to see it become a national public policy priority."

According to North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS®, despite seeing early signs of stabilization in the market, creditworthy buyers are being denied their dreams of owning a home because they cannot qualify for a loan. In addition, many homeowners in our area are still struggling with foreclosures and underwater mortgages.

"Issues such as foreclosures and access to affordable financing don’t just affect people who own a home – homeownership shapes communities and strengthens the nation’s economy," said Gibbons. "More must be done to reduce the rising inventory of foreclosed homes and address the lack of available and affordable mortgage financing."

When I say more must be done, it is not in the way of government regulation. I believe we must get back to what made this country great-small business! Take a look at the chart, Home ownership is still the best investment over the long term.

At this point you might be asking yourself,"what can I do" and it is quite simple, vote and support  small business and elect officials that care about homeownership! Call me if you have any questions about homeownership!

Cheers
