505 North - News from Your Barrington Area Library

What's new and noteworthy at the Barrington Area Library - Yours For Life.

Hello and welcome to 505 North, a new and newsy blog from the Barrington Area Library. I’m Karen McBride and speaking of new things at BAL – I’m one of them. I began working at the library in April 2011 as the Public Information Manager. My library career of 20+ years has included both academic and public libraries and I can tell you one crucial difference between the two types: public libraries have no downtime! No semester breaks or finals week here. The creativity, innovation and plain old hard work happen 7 days a week, almost 365 days a year. That means there is always something new to read, hear, watch and experience and that's why your public library is an exciting place to visit, month after month, year after year.

I hope you’re aware of the Barrington Area Library's excellent reputation within Barrington and the surrounding communities but also amongst other libraries. We’re known for staying on top of trends and technology and we plan on staying that way. Our Web site and newsletter will be refreshed and reorganized this year so it will be easier for you to get the information you need. Connect with us via social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare and don't be shy about it! I am delighted to be working at this terrific library in this vibrant community. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at library events and programs but also out in the community. (Hint: I’m at the Bread Basket almost every Sunday.) Thanks for checking in and I hope you’ll make 505 North a regular stop, both here on Patch and also in person on Northwest Highway in beautiful Barrington, IL.
