We’re Crackers for Christmas!

British Holiday Traditions

Curious about Christmas Crackers, Stir-Up Sunday, Mince Pies or the Great Christmas Pudding Race?

The Barrington Court Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE) offers details about these classic British holiday traditions at their website, DBEBarrington.wordpress.com. Through the posts and links, you'll learn how to grow your own mistletoe, avoid bad luck when consuming mince pies, get recipes, send free virtual Christmas Crackers, and so much more.

About the Barrington Court Chapter

The Barrington Court Chapter's purpose is philanthropy, friendship, and the sharing and celebration of our common British and Commonwealth cultures and traditions. New members are always welcome! If you are interested in joining, and are a woman of British or British Commonwealth heritage by birth, naturalization or ancestry (or are a wife/partner of such), please inquire at DBEBarrington@yahoo.com.

Christmas Cards for Sale

The Chapter is selling charming Christmas cards (pictured above). Featuring a delightful winter scene, "The Postbox" watercolor was exclusively created by artist David Sutton. Inside the card, the greeting is "Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year". Cards are sold in packs of 6 at a cost of $10 per pack (plus shipping if applicable). Proceeds benefit Cantata, a retirement community located in Brookfield, IL. Purchase a few extra packs to share with your friends to spread the holiday cheer! For details, please e-mail DBEBarrington@yahoo.com.
