Style Among Sisters, Part 2

Mia Sorella owners share a key to opening a business in the midst of busy lives.

So we always had a dream of owning a business…BUT with three small children each and hungry husbands to feed, vacuuming to do, dishes to wash…how do we make this happen daily?  It is all about great staff!

In our first blog, we shared a bit of how the story of our business adventure from childhood carnivals to the fashion world unfolded. Now that you've gotten to know a little bit about us, as owners of Mia Sorella, we want to introduce our amazing staff and how we evolved from a vision of four women around the kitchen table to where we are today!

Step one on staffing…Choose wisely (remember this is helping make the dream possible)! We had met Tiffany and Jessica and fell in love with them immediately.  Jessica has such an amazing sense of fashion and style.  She is the fifth girl in a family of ten kids.  She has five sisters who all impacted her life of fashion.  She grew up loving all things pertaining to fashion and beauty- learning from her sisters.  Jessica has become an expert in working with color and the latest trends in hair by doing it everyday.  The big bonus is that she also has fantastic fashion sense.  She loves to stay fashion forward but also classy!  Jessica designed, decorated, stocked and managed the Mia Sorella salon from day one.  This sister has also helped stock our closets.  We have relied on Jessica’s fabulous style on our buying trips since day one.

Tiffany (recently married... Jessica was the matron of honor!) was working with Jessica at a salon and has an amazing knack for not only style, but also details. She is a wiz at keeping all the details of the business organized as well as maintaining peace in the crazy retail storm.  Tiffany not only can run the day to day happenings of the business but also has a passion for the buying side of the store.  Tiffany is the expert on our customers and loves finding the perfect piece for our customers at market.

Step two on staffing….Find someone you are NOT to complete you (just like in Jerry McGuire).  So we kinda knew who would be handling the details and performing the services, but needed someone to take our vision and passion and create the boutique we had in our mind and heart.  As we started to get ready to open our doors, we knew we needed one more creative mind and sister in this mix.  In walks Emily.  Emily has a vintage flair and an amazingly creative mind.  Emily was made to make things beautiful.  She took our little Cook Street space and transformed it into the cutest, coziest and homieist feeling boutique that we were dreaming of. Emily's art (on display everyday at our store) includes everything from a full newspaper tree to a real working lamp post and old antique fireplace for the windows to vintage suitcases, an antique typewriter and an old school desk to display our favorite tops and accessories.

We are so blessed to have such gifted sisters!  Our story would be incomplete without them.  We look forward to you getting to know and love our staff too!

Coming soon…. More details of what we see from our small corner on Cook Street in our hometown, Barrington.
