BACOG Executive Director Arrested for DUI

Janet Agnoletti was arrested April 22 after failing field sobriety tests, according to police.

The Executive Director of the Barrington Area Council of Governments (BACOG) is facing DUI charges after being pulled over by Barrington police on April 22.

Police stopped Janet Agnoletti, 57, of the 200 block of Shoreline Road, at Hough and Elm Streets just after 1 a.m. when police reported she was swerving in and out of her lane of traffic. Police said Agnoletti told the reporting officer she was leaving McGonigal’s Pub in Barrington and admitted to having three drinks.

Police said the officer asked Agnoletti to perform several field sobriety tests, some of which she failed. At that time, she was placed under arrest.

According to police, Agnoletti also failed a breathalyzer test, which showed her blood alcohol level registered at .117, which is higher than the .08 legal limit. Agnoletti posted bail and was released the morning of her arrest. 

BACOG Executive Board Chair Kathleen Leitner issued the following statement regarding the incident:

“The BACOG Board is aware of the recent incident involving BACOG Executive Director Janet Agnoletti. The BACOG Board views this as a personal matter for which Ms. Agnoletti takes full responsibility and is handling appropriately. The Board continues to have full confidence in Ms. Agnoletti’s ability to effectively lead BACOG and to discharge her responsibilities.”

Agnoletti is also facing charges for driving without proof of insurance. She is due in Cook County Court June 3.

According to the BACOG website, the BACOG is a voluntary organization of elected officials representing seven local villages and two townships in the Barrington area: Barrington, Barrington Hills, Barrington Township, Cuba Township, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington and Tower Lakes.
