Barrington Countryside Fire Gets Chief Administrator

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District has brought in a chief administrator to help guide the fire district through its separation from Barrington.

Jeffrey A. Swanson, a skilled fire service officer with more than 16 years of administration, management and training experience, has been named interim administrator of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, a press release states.

Swanson will lead the District’s separation from the village of Barrington and final transition to independent operations by year’s end and beyond.

Swanson, 43, of New Lenox, was chosen by the Board of Trustees from a pool

of 10 candidates submitted for consideration by consultants from the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA). He will begin his BCFPD service July 18, the press release states.

“While all the candidates we interviewed were exceptional, the Board felt that Jeff’s wide range of experience, management style and proven record of accomplishment will mesh very well with our goals for providing fire and emergency medical services to our residents,” Trustee Thomas Long stated.

Swanson’s professional background includes experience in fire ground command and control, fire prevention, code enforcement, fire service law, emergency medical service (EMS), fire investigation, training and public education.

As fire Chief/administrator for the New Lenox Fire Protection District, Swanson oversaw the opening of an additional fire station, additional staffing and emergency equipment upgrades.

These efforts helped the District meet recommendations for reducing response times and improving operational efficiencies.

While in New Lenox, Swanson presided over a department comprised of union, contract and part-time firefighters.

In addition, he developed and supervised joint operational activities for full-time, contractual and paid-on-call firefighters while serving as shift commander and training officer with the Winfield Fire Protection District, the press release stated.
