Barrington Fire District Approves Auto-Aid Agreement; Will Hire 3 Assistant Chiefs

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees on Monday approved an auto-aid agreement with the Fox River Grove Protection District and also gave the go ahead for Fire Chief Jeff Swanson to hire three part-time assistant chiefs, according to the Daily Herald

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District — which consists of 48 square miles and includes parts of South Barrington, Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington and Inverness — will begin operating independently in less than two months and will no longer receive service from the Barringon Fire Department, according to the article.

"We are very pleased by how quickly this agreement with Fox River Grove came together," said BCFPD Secretary Paul Heinze, in a press release. "We are looking forward to working with them and our surrounding neighbors for the benefit of all our residents."

In September, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District formally signed an agreement with a Schiller Park company to provide full time firefighters to its newly formed department, according to the Daily Herald.

Paramedic Services of Illinois (PSI) will provide the district with 33 full-time firefighters/paramedics when the district begins its independent operations on Jan. 1.

The Village of Barrington will be laying off 19 firefighters/paramedics as it restructures its fire department. Firefighters affected by the split will be hired through PSI to work for the district.

A pending auto-aid agreement with the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District is expected to be approved at the BCFPD's Nov. 18 meeting, according to a press release.

District officials are discussing separate auto-aid agreements with the Barrington Fire Department, Carpentersville Fire Department, East Dundee Fire Protection District, Hoffman Estates Fire Department and Palatine Fire Department.
