Barrington Inks Auto-Aid Agreement with Palatine Rural Fire Protection District

The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District will respond to fires in and around Barrington Middle School's Prairie Campus, while the Barrington Fire Department will respond to accidents at Ela and Dundee roads in Palatine.

Barrington village trustees have unanimously approved an automatic-aid agreement with the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District.

Village of Barrington Fire Chief Jim Arie told the village board Monday that per the agreement, the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District will respond to fires at and near Barrington Middle School's Prairie Campus at 40 Dundee Rd., and in return, the Barrington Fire Department will respond to accidents at Ela and Dundee roads in Palatine.

"We're happy to have this agreement," said Barrington Village President Karen Darch.

The village also has auto-aid agreements with Long Grove and Lake Zurich Fire Departments and Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District, but not the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, which began operating independently on Jan. 1.

The fire district's decision to split with the village was made after negotiations to renew an existing agreement hit a stalemate due to differences over adding personnel and additional firefighting equipment, reported Patch.

Arie said the village hopes to enter into additional auto-aid agreements with neighboring communities, and is still pursuing an agreement with the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, reported Barrington Suburban Life.

Earlier this month, however, the fire district indicated it would no longer pursue an auto-aid agreement with the village, but pledged to assist the village whenever possible through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), reported Patch.
