Barrington Man Charged in Collision with Lake County Sheriff Squad Car

The collision occurred Dec. 19 in Grayslake.

A Barrington man was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, along with other offenses, after his vehicle rear-ended a Lake County Sheriff's Office squad car in Grayslake Thursday, police said.

Sgt. Sara Balmes said the man, identified as Pedro Navarette, 39, of the 600 block of Prospect Avenue in Barrington, struck the squad car at Winchester Road and Route 83 at about 8 p.m. Thursday. Navarette was driving a 1999 Subaru Outback, Balmes said.

Navarette was subsequently charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence - Class 4 and Class 2 felonies, aggravated driving while license revoked - a Class 4 felony, operating an uninsured vehicle, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Balmes said. His bond was set at $50,000 pending a Dec. 30 court date.

Balmes noted that the sergeant whose vehicle was struck was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Navarette refused treatment at the scene, Balmes said.
