Barrington Obituary Burglar Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison

Jason Werner and his wife Jacquelyn Buchholz burglarized homes while family members attended wakes.

The Johnsburg man involved in a series of burglaries in and around Barrington has been sentenced to six years in prison, the Daily Herald reports.

Jason K. Werner, 27, pleaded guilty to one count of felony burglary. Prosecutors dismissed 11 counts of felony theft and burglary charges against him for the plea, the newspaper reports.

Werner and his wife, Jacquelyn Buchholz, read obituaries and burglarized homes while family members attended wakes. They were both charged with residential burglary last September for attempting to burglarize a Barrington home twice in one night while the owners were home.

Buchholz and Werner confessed to dozens of other burglaries in Boone, McHenry and unincorporated Cook County. Buchholz was sentenced to nine years in prison for the crime.
