Barrington PD’s National Night Out Continues Safety Theme

Event planned Thursday, Aug. 8 in downtown Barrington.

Barrington Police Department’s successful National Night Out is once again focused on making families safe and preventing crime.

National Night Out (NNO) is planned in conjunction with the “Public Safety Cruise Night” car show from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the intersection of Cook and Station Streets in downtown Barrington.

NNO _ in its 30th year _ brought together 37.5 million people last year in 15,704 communities in the country. The night is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, according to a Barrington Police Department release.

“Ours is a little bit different, we are encouraging people to come out to the event to learn all these safety tips and to partner with us,” said Jennifer Herzfeldt, executive assistant to the chief of police in Barrington. She is coordinating the event.

Barrington Police began holding NNO in conjunction with the cruise night last year and had a fantastic turn out, she said. Barrington Police hope to have a good turnout this year too.
