Barrington Police Sergeant Burke Graduates from School of Staff and Command

Sgt. John Burke is now one of 14,000 to graduate from the program.

A Barrington Police Department Sergeant has another title under his belt. 

Sergeant John Burke is now a graduate of the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University, the village of Barrington reports. Sgt. Burke completed the 10 week program from March 18-May 24.

The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in a total of twenty-two core or mandatory blocks of instruction and utilizes nine additional optional blocks of instruction during each session. The major topics of study include: Management and Management Theory, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources for Law Enforcement, Budgeting, Staffing Allocation and Personnel Deployment.

The Barrington Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from Sergeant John Burke’s attendance at this program. Many of the program’s graduates go on to achieve a variety of leadership positions within their respective agencies. Currently, over 750 graduates hold the title of Chief of Police and 39 of the 50 Directors of State Police Agencies are also graduates of this program.
