Update: Lake Barrington Resident Died of Smoke Inhalation, Identity Released

Investigators determined that there was no foul play in fire that led to death of Michael Ostrinsky.

Update 3:25 p.m.

The Lake Barrington Shores man who died in this morning's fire has been identified as Michael Ostrinsky, 75, said Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo.

"He did not die from the flames; he was overtaken by smoke inhalation," Portillo said.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal determined that there was no foul play, Portillo said. He said the fire originated inside the home.

The investigation continues into a Lake Barrington fire and fatality this morning. The fire is being investigated by the Wauconda Fire District, the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from Wauconda Battalion Chief Kevin Pyne.

Wauconda Fire District was dispatched to the townhouse at 612 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington Shores at 8:50 a.m., Tuesday. 

The first arriving firefighters found smoke showing from a two story - four unit, occupied residential structure. Bystanders told responding firefighters that one of the occupants was trapped in the unit that was on fire, according to the news release. Firefighters forced entry into the residence and quickly knocked down the fire and began a search for the occupant. Within a few minutes the occupant was found and removed. The occupant was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington where he was pronounced dead. There were working smoke detectors in the residence at the time of the fire. 

Due to the extreme cold Wauconda requested mutual aid. Responding departments were Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Nunda, Countryside, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Fox River Grove, and Round Lake. Grayslake and Lake Villa covered the Wauconda station during the fire. 

Update, 11:52 a.m.

A man died at a home fire in Lake Barrington, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo.

Portillo said the cause of death is currently unknown. He said the man was about 75 years old. 

Portillo said a deputy from the Coroner's Office is still at the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. 

"We don't know at this point if it was smoke inhalation or foul play," he said. 

Portillo said Lake County Sheriff's investigators are currently at the scene.

Firefighters are also still at the scene of the fire, according to a Wauconda Fire District spokesperson. The district shift commander is expected to release details of the incident this afternoon. 

9:29 a.m.

A box alarm has been pulled for a house fire in Lake Barrington, the Current Incident Notification Services (CINS) reports.  

The alert was sent out just after 9 a.m. for the home at 612 Shoreline Road where heavy smoke has been seen pouring from the structure, the CINS reports. The Wauconda Fire District is the responding agency.
