BPD Joining Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign
Barrington Police Department is cracking down on drunk drivers in annual statewide campaign.
Barrington police are gearing up for an annual driving campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, starting Aug. 16 through Labor Day.
The statewide crackdown will include high visibility enforcement efforts. Locally, Barrington police officers will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violators.
Drunk driving is always a priority, but police see impaired driving increase during a holiday.

“Every year in Illinois, about one third of all motor vehicle traffic deaths involve one or more drunk drivers or motorcycle operators,” Acting Police Chief Dave Dorn said.
Research has shown that high-visibility enforcement like the 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign reduces drunk driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent, he said.

The law enforcement crackdown is funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
