District 220 Security Revisited After Connecticut Shooting

Security measures are being revisited in Barrington School District 220 in light of the mass shootings at an elementary school in Newtown, CT earlier today.

“As upsetting as this is, however, it is also sobering to realize crimes against schools do occur and we must always be vigilant. Regularly in Barrington 220, we revisit security procedures to ensure our students and staff know what to do in the event of a lockdown, and we are re-examining our entry protocols to remain diligent about screening those who request access to our schools. In addition, partnerships with and proximity to our local law enforcement agencies are both proactive and reassuring,” read a letter from District 220 Superintendent Tom Leonard.

Leonard stressed that while no school is immune to unspeakable crimes like these, District 220 remains on high alert to protect students and staff on a daily basis.

“Nevertheless, as details emerge from Connecticut, there is little more we can do to understand or explain the terrible circumstances of this day. What I do know is our determination in Barrington 220 to protect those who work and learn in our schools,” Leonard’s letter read.
