Fire was reported at the senior citizens apartment building on Thursday, Oct. 4.

An apartment in the Lake Barrington Woods retirement building caught fire late Thursday evening.

The Barrington Fire Department received the call just after 9 p.m. When crews arrived on the scene, they were told there was smoke throughout the building. A rescue operation ensued to check for residents inside.

During the search, the resident of the burning apartment was located with her caregiver who had reportedly removed her from the burning room. They were both taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital for evaluation.

Fire crews say had the blaze under control by 11:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Estimated damages to the building have not yet been reported.
