Fire Department Honors Nancy Fidler

Fidler, a former Executive Assistant to the Barrington Fire Chief, passed away from cancer in April.

Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) trustees officially dedicated a commemorative paver brick honoring Nancy Kay Fidler and her 27 years of service to the District, during an October 28 ceremony at Barrington Memorial Park.

Fidler, who served as Executive Assistant to Barrington Fire Chief James Arie, died in April after a long battle with cancer.  She was 58 years-old.

The brick’s inscription reads, “Our sincere thanks to Nancy Fidler for 27 years of distinguished service from 1983 to 2011 to the Barrington Countryside FPD.”

Chief Arie described Fidler as “loyal, dedicated, and a consummate professional whose work ethic was second-to-none.  Nancy served the community with pride and honor.  She left her mark on everything she did,” he explained.

Fidler was active in many fire service organizations, including the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts, and the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.  She was a long-time member of the Illinois Fire Service Administrative Professionals, and served as the organization’s president in 2000-01.

BCPFD trustees commissioned the paver brick to demonstrate their appreciation for Fidler’s service.

“Nancy will always be remembered for her professionalism and dedication,” BCFPD President Tom Rowan said.  “This paver brick will honor – and serve as an enduring reminder of – her 27 years of service to the District and the communities it serves.”
