A pile of burnt wood and brick is all that’s left of a home in Barrington Hills after fire tore through Monday night.
A Box Alarm was pulled for the fire at the home at 97 Otis Road between Brinker Road and Hills and Dales Road around 9:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. Witnesses say the flames and smoke were so intense that it appeared as if a small plane went down.
Barrington Fire Department Chief Jim Arie said fire officials arrived at the scene within five minutes of the 911 call being made. The entire residence was completely engulfed in flames upon arrival.
"All occupants were out of the house and accounted for. Due to the construction method, the fire spread throughout the structure very quickly," Arie said.
Fire officials from 18 departments responded to the fire including Cary, Fox River Grove, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Carpentersville, Arlington Heights, Palatine Rural, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Algonquin, Bartlett, Crystal Lake, Wauconda, Nunda, Buffalo Grove, Hanover Park, Wheeling, and Rolling Meadows.
One Barrington firefighter/paramedic became sick at the scene. He was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital where he was admitted for evaluation. He was released on Wednesday.
The fire is still under investigation and does not appear to be suspicious.
