Fire Ravages Barrington Hills Home

House was vacant and there were no injuries.

A fire caused significant damage to a vacant home at 189 Old Sutton Road in Barrington Hills, last night, according the Barrington Assistant Fire Chief Don Wenschhof.

The call came in at 4:54 p.m. and the first units arrived within five minutes, Wenschhof said. They found heavy smoke coming from a single-family, single-story home.

"The initial attack was to the interior due to heavy smoke coming from multiple locations," Wenschhof said.

Firefighters discovered the fire was in the basement. The fire caused the floors to be unstable, so the firefighters pulled out of the house and continued to fight the fire on the defensive.

Due to the location, water had to be trucked in. Wenschhof said eight fire departments responded initially, and another 10 came after a box alarm was called.
