Former Makray Employee Pleads Guilty to Felony Theft, Sentenced to Probation

Barrington Hills woman admits stealing more than $173,000 from the club.

Makray Memorial Gold Club's former director of catering pleaded guilty to felony theft involving the theft of $173,998.20 during a three-year period beginning in 2007, authorities said.

Roberta “Bobbie” L. Mangini, of Barrington Hills, was sentenced to four years probation and must make restitution, police said.

Mangini paid $10,000 this week and will pay $1,000 a month until the full amount is paid back to the Barrington golf club.

The Barrington Police Department and Cook County State's Attorney's Financial Crimes Unit spent seven months investigating a scheme in which they said Mangini would offer deep discounts to those looking to host their events at the golf club in exchange for a full cash payment. Mangini would then take portions of the cash payments without reporting the full amounts to Makray. She was arrested in 2011.
