UPDATE: Firefighter Taken to Hospital Fighting Hazmat Situation at Barrington Home

Fire and police officials were called to a home Cuba Road July 19.

A firefighter was transported to the hospital while investigating a report of a gas-like smell at a Barrington home.

Fire officials from multiple agencies were called to a home on the 25000 block of Cuba Road this morning after the smell of gas was reported around 7 a.m.

Barrington Fire Department arrived on the scene and found a box that smelled of gas in the garage. A firefighter was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital due to medical symptoms experienced on the scene.

Crews weren't able to identify the contents of the box, so a hazardous materials incident was activated and the Lake and McHenry County Hazardous Materials Response Team responded.

Fire crews had the west bound portion of Cuba Road blocked off at Lake Zurich Road due to the incident. The east bound portion of Cuba Road remained open.
