House Fire Causes $100,000 in Damages

Neighbors carried homeowner out of the burning Ponderosa Court house April 28.

A house on Ponderosa Court in Barrington went up in flames Thursday afternoon, causing at least $100,000 in damage.

The fire broke out at 2:44 p.m. April 28 at 120 Ponderosa Court. When fire personnel arrived on the scene at 2:49 p.m., the backside of the house was ablaze.

The homeowner had to be rescued by neighbors out of the burning home. Fire Chief Jim Arie reports the neighbors carried him out of the house on a chair. The homeowner told fire officials he thought his wife was still inside, causing them to pull a box alarm.

"We searched the first floor, then the second floor then the basement, and searched again," Barrington Fire Chief Jim Arie said on the scene. The homeowner later discovered his wife's car was not in the garage, and she was never inside of the home when the fire started. Fire officials said the possibility that she was in the house made for a dire situation.

"It's pretty concerning to think that someone is inside and not be able to find them," Arie said.
