Jury Reaches Split Verdict in Fatal Street-Racing Case

A jury convicted a 39-year-old Bartlett man of aggravated street racing, but acquitted him on the more serious charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, for a street racing crash that claimed two lives, according to the Daily Herald.

Timothy Salvesen was on trial for his involvement in the street race with the North Aurora man, Joseph Palokaitis, 32, while both were west on Golf Road in Hoffman Estates in January 2011.

Witnesses said the two were racing in and out of traffic traveling between 80 to 90 mph before Palokaitis's vehicle fishtailed and collided with the vehicle of the Hoffman Estates resident, Migdalia Bloch, 62, according to the article.
