A 42-year-old Lake in the Hills man involved in a car accident on Algonquin Road this past weekend remains in critical condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

A public relations spokeswoman for Advocate said Jeff Rubio, of Lake in the Hills, is listed as "critical, but stable condition" following a car accident on Algonquin Road in South Barrington this past Saturday, Oct. 5.

It took emergency responders 30 minutes to extricate Rubio from his 2010 Mazda at about 1:50 p.m. Rubio's car was struck by a 2012 Jeep driven by Brianna Graffia, 16, of Inverness.

Graffia, traveling east on Algonquin Road, turned eastward onto Palatine Road and at that point collided with Rubio's car, which was traveling westbound on Algonquin Road.

Police have said in related stories they are checking the traffic light signals at the intersection to see if they were functioning properly.

Rubio is the facilities manager for Forest View Education Center for Township High School District 214 based in Arlington Heights.

Venetia Miles, communications director and spokeswoman for District 214, provided the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff and his family right now," Miles said.

According to his Facebook page, Rubio is also a soccer coach.
