Lightning Strike Ignites Barrington Home

Twelve area fire departments help bring fire under control.

Sunday afternoon’s lightning and thunderstorm ignited a home at 1235 Macalpin Drive in Barrington.

According to a news release from the firefighters were dispatched at 1:13 p.m. for a lightning strike. When the crews arrived on the scene at 1:18 p.m., there was heavy black smoke coming from the roof.

The fire department issued a box alarm for additional manpower to fight the fire. Fire departments from Algonquin, Buffalo Grove, Carpentersville, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Palatine Rural and Wauconda arrived. The fire departments brought the blaze under control at 2:31 p.m.

According to the news release, the house sustained $100,000 to $150,000 in damage. The house was unoccupied.
