Local Man Dies in Accidental Drowning in Racine

Richard Franzese was found in the Root River at ReefPoint Marina on Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

A 58-year-old Hoffman Estates man has been identified as the apparent drowning victim who was found dead Sunday at a Racine marina, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The body of Richard Franzese was found in the Root River at ReefPoint Marina, according to the article.

Franzese was an avid boater who enjoyed spending his time out on the Root River and was credited for saving an elderly man who was drowning in the river in 2005, according to the Racine Journal Times.

The city of Racine recognized Franzese with a Citizen Lifesaving Award after he kept the elderly man's "head and mouth above water, despite the man resisting him," until authorities could arrive, according to the Journal Times.

The accidental drowning is under investigation, according to CBS 58.
