Man Arrested in Alleged Rape of Teen Girl

Santiago Farias was arrested after the alleged rape occurred during the power outage on July 11.

A Barrington man was arrested after a 16-year-old girl alleged she was raped July 11.

Detective Sgt. Kevin Croke said 20-year-old Santiago Farias faces charges of sexual assault by force, a Class 1 felony.

The incident happened July 11, when strong storms came threw the area and left much of Barrington without power. Croke said Farias and the girl were both outside when he invited her in his home on the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue for a cool drink.

Farias allegedly attacked the victim as soon as the two entered the home. Croke said Farias used his strength to push the victim down and allegedly had sexual relations with her.

The victim did not report the crime until later in the week when Croke said she made a public outcry to a counselor who encouraged her to tell her mother what happened.
