Nurse Killed by Snowplow at Good Shepherd Hospital

Poor visibility to blame in death of woman as she crossed parking lot.

A woman was killed in the parking lot of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington Wednesday when she was struck by a truck with a snowplow.

The woman was a nurse at the hospital, NBC Chicago reports. She's identified as Diane Shogren, 51, of Ingleside, according to Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd, the Tribune reports.

A red 2012 Ford F-450 truck with a snowplow attached was backing in a parking lot at around 5:30 a.m. when the driver backed into a nurse crossing the lot. She died at the scene, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

"It was snowing heavily and there was limited visibility at the time of the incident," a release from the Sheriff's Office stated. All lights on the truck were functioning properly.

Both the man driving the truck and the victim are employees of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The Lake County Coroner’s Office will provide the identity of the deceased female victim pending proper notification.
