Phone Scams

On Nov. 28, a resident in the 100 block of East Lincoln Ave. reported an attempted phone scam, where an unknown male claiming to be her nephew, needing $16,000 to get out of jail in Mexico.

A resident in the 500 block of Park Barrington Way reported an attempted phone scam, Nov. 29, in which a man identified himself as the resident’s grandson, needing $16,000 to get out of jail in Mexico.

Fraud and Deception

On Nov. 29, Surface Group International, located at 201 Lageschulte Street, reported a deceptive practice after being notified by their bank that an email had been received asking for account and balance information.

A resident in the 100 block of North Kainer Ave. reported fraudulent use of her credit card via the internet, Dec. 1, after purchases had been made in France.

On Dec. 2, a resident in the 300 block of North Hough St. reported fraudulent use of her credit card.

Suspicious Behavior

A resident in the 400 block of North Hough Street reported a Hispanic male,

approximately 56 years old, heavyset and wearing a plaid shirt, knocking on her door, Nov. 28, then attempting to divert her attention to a window in the residence. The subject fled the area in a maroon van when the resident did not comply.

Missing Manholes

On Nov. 29, a resident in the 100 block of West Lake St. reported a missing manhole cover in the roadway. It was later discovered that a total of three covers were missing throughout the area, each valued at $100.

Purse Theft

A purse was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Prairie Middle School, located at 40 East Dundee Rd., Nov. 29.

Rock Damage

On Dec. 1, a window at Kevin’s Cleaners, located at 720 West Northwest Highway was reported damaged, after unknown persons threw a rock at it, some time in the evening or early morning hours.

Smashed Church Window

On Dec. 3,  person(s) unknown smashed a large window at Orchard Church, 1301 South Grove Ave. The estimate to replace the window is $700.

Library Vandalized

The Barrington Library, 505 N Northwest Highway, reported vandalism occurred outside and inside the property, Dec. 2. Graffiti was found on bookcases, in the boy’s bathroom, and on a pole outside the front of the library. The orange craft paint washed off with no damage.
