Rash of Car Burglaries Across Barrington

Barrington police report a string of car burglaries on June 2.

Nine cars were burglarized June 2 across the village of Barrington.

Barrington police report someone entered two garages on the 1400 block of Cascade Lane and took off with more than $917 worth of property. At one location, someone stole a Garmin GPS and a wallet from an unlocked car. At the second location on Cascade Lane, someone took off with a Garmin GPS from a vehicle and a set of golf clubs, a baseball helmet and beer from the garage.

Two additional incidents were reported on the 1400 block Cascade Lane. Someone entered an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a home and stole custom-made golf clubs, a golf bag and a putter. The estimated value of the items is about $1,000. The individual got away with a Garmin GPS and a roll of postage stamps from another unlocked car on Cascade Lane the same evening.

Just around the corner, on the 1400 block of Columbia Lane, another car was broken into June 2. Someone entered a car parked in the driveway of a home. No items were stolen.

Similar incidents occurred at Citizen’s Park. Police say someone smashed two car windows and took off with purses from each vehicle. The thief attempted to steal a GPS system from each car, but was unsuccessful.

Another resident reported a car burglary on June 2, while parked at Park Avenue and Main Street. The victim was away from the vehicle for only 20 minutes, Barrington police were told. Items reported stolen include an iTouch, Nintendo Gameboy, two Gameboy cartridges a Nintendo case and a travel chessboard. The estimated value of the items is $690.

An unlocked vehicle parked at the Barrington Area Library also was burglarized. Someone entered the car and stole the purse inside.
