Rise In Burglaries Has Residents On High Alert

Area suburbs have seen a rash of ruse burglaries in recent weeks.

Barrington Police Department is warning residents to say safe around utility and other workers that may come to your home.

A rash of ruse burglaries in area suburbs caused the department to issue an alert to residents regarding the issue this week. A ruse burglary is when a con artist poses as a worker in order to distract residents while another con artists robs your home.

These burglars may ask to use your bathroom or phone as a distraction while the other burglar sneaks into your home and walks out with valuables.

Suspects in these recent crimes are described as white or Hispanic men in white vans or pick-up trucks.

Police remind residents to ask to see identification of employment before letting anyone into your home. If you see any suspicious activity, you are asked to contact the Barrington Police Department by dialing 911.
