UPDATE: Drowning Death of Round Lake Girl, 9, Under Investigation

The incident occurred near a boat launch in Fox Lake Tuesday evening.

The McHenry County Coroner's Office is investigating the drowning death of a 9-year-old Round Lake girl that occurred in the Fox Lake Tuesday evening, according to a press release from the coroner's office. 

The girl was wading in water with family and friends near the 36000 block of Stanton Point Road in Ingleside about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when she apparently went under after walking further out from the shoreline, according to the coroner's news release and police reports.  

Witnesses immediately called for help and she was pulled from the girl by a family friend.  Rescue arrived and transported the girl to Centegra Hospital in McHenry where she was later pronounced.  

The girl's name is being withheld pending proper notification, police said Tuesday night. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed this morning, according to the McHenry County coroner's office.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A 9-year-old Round Lake girl drowned Tuesday in Fox Lake.

Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Sara Balmes said police were called to the 36000 block of Stanton Point Road in Ingleside at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The girl, whose name is being withheld pending proper notification, was swimming near a boat launch on Fox Lake with other children when she went under the water, Balmes said. 

Adults entered the water to pull her out. The girl was pronounced dead at Centegra Hospital in McHenry, Balmes said. 

The incident is under investigation.
