Train Gate Malfunction Causes Traffic Delay

Traffic in both directions along Route 59 in Barrington is backed up due to the issue.

6:50 p.m., July 23: A train gate malfunction at Route 59 just north of Lake Cook Road is causing a major traffic delay in both directions. 

The gates along the Union Pacific Railway are stuck half-way down with the safety lights flashing. Police are on the scene directing traffic over the tracks. Trains coming through are blaring their horns longer than usual to alert drivers of their presence. 

It's not known what caused the malfunction. Police will remain on the scene until the situation is resolved.
