Train Safety Video Aims to Help Save Lives

Barrington police work with Metra to educate community on train safety.

The village of Barrington is actively involved in a train safety education program, Operation Lifesaver Train Safety Awareness, said Barrington Assistant Police Chief Dave Dorn. The program is a comprehensive train safety program that educates children and adults of the dangers of Metra’s at-grade crossings and trespassing along the railroad’s right-of-way.

"We do train safety programs and have for years been involved in Operation Lifesaver," Dorn said.  Dorn said police go to Barrington schools and talk about train safety with driver's education students as well as younger students.

"We have a lot of crossings so we try to do whatever we can to educate people about train safety," Dorn said.
