Illinois State Police told the Chicago Tribune weather was a factor in the deadly crash. Allard's pick-up truck slid on the icy road then went over a cement retaining wall for the bridge. Allard was crushed and had to be extricated, according to the article.

When Allard's truck fell it clipped a car that was headed westbound on Northwest Highway, causing minor damage and no injury to the driver, reported the Daily Herald.
