David McSweeney will run as a Republican candidate for State Representative of the 52nd District.

resident David McSweeney has officially announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 52nd District.

The 1983 graduate will be vying for the seat currently held by Republican Kent Gaffney. Gaffney took over in July after the passing of Mark Beaubien, Jr.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to run for representative in the 52nd District,” McSweeney said in a statement. “Unless tough choices are made, Illinois will soon face a serious financial crisis. The future of our state depends on citizen legislators who are committed to the hard decisions that bureaucrats and politicians have failed to make. With my business background and experience, I am ready to fight for fiscal responsibility and economic empowerment to get Illinois back on track,” he said.
