Barrington Honored for Financial Planning Success

The village of Barrington received two nationally recognized awards for success in financial reporting and budget presentation.

The State of Illinois may have some serious budget issues to work out, but that’s not the case in the .

The village has been given the Certificate for Achievement and Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

“The CAFR is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting and its obtainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” Barrington Trustee and Administration & Finance Chairman Jim Daluga said.

Community & Financial Services Assistant Director Allison Chmelik and village Accountant Heather McGovern were presented with the award at the Sept. 12 Board of Trustees meeting.

“It is my pleasure to give this award to two wonderfully hard workers who do an incredible job here in the village,” Daluga said. “And this is not the first time that they’ve been able to accomplish this.”

It’s also not the first time the village has been given the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. This year marks ten years in a row that staff members have received the special recognition.

“In order to receive the budget award we had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation,” Daluga said.

Community & Financial Services Director Jason Hayden accepted the award on behalf of the department.

“It really is nice to have this recognition,” Village President Karen Darch said. “We have a great staff and they work very hard and when you are recognized by outside organizations for excellent work, it’s very nice to see.”
